For many years, I have been investing in my so-called capsule wardrobe. I love fashion and good-quality items, but I do not like the idea of endless consumerism. I want to choose, buy, and build with care. A jacket that I love so much and will wear for 10 years, combined with trousers that cost a lot but live up to their promise. A smaller selection of items I simply love and that are well made, that I can mix and match.
I launched Silkhaus with a clear idea: to let people enjoy the beauty of flowers, without the wasteful cycle behind it. Flowers are stunning, I love them, but the heavy growing overseas, the fast and cooled transport, buying them and seeing them wilt away in a few days, and then the cycle starts again: this does not make sense to me anymore. Especially not when you have a beautiful alternative: crafted, impressive, colourful art flowers. The quality of these art flowers has improved so much that people often have to look twice, or three times.
When we launched, I saw people sometimes struggling to make the “right” decisions: am I going for tulips? Or roses? Or hydrangeas? Because the flowers stay, and you do not have to throw them away, it feels like something very permanent, like a painting on the wall. Yes, the flowers are permanent, which makes them more sustainable, but the good news is: you can mix and match them endlessly.

Put one branch in a sculptural vase to create something arty; put 20 different colourful flowers together in a big vase when hosting a dinner to create joy; add three of the same flowers in a small vase on your nightstand. The possibilities are endless.
